Storms in Transition

Today's post will be short. Storms have finally been ushering us into Spring, and I have been busy with a career related side project. I took time tonight to check my messages on LinkedIn and have been reading articles a bit too obsessively, I am afraid.

I have been fortunate to land an interview this Friday with a great company. I have studied their website and even read articles about speeches the President of said company has given. The more I read and learn the more I really want to work for this company.

One thing I have decided is to become involved in a local Career Transition group when I become a full time employee again. Just getting an email from my mentor tonight was encouraging and I would like to pass the feeling along. The things I am learning from research, reading, networking, and attending career workshops may have some value to others. The small leadership group I was involved in in my last job provided much needed on the job support.

Help Increase Employment Chances!

Today I met with two recruiters from a local company named ComForce. I had a nice experience with them. They have locations all over the US and this location seems to have good feel for the needs of the community. I will add them to my contacts and keep in touch. I have another meeting with a local recruiter tomorrow but in the meantime, I have to wade through some badly spelled and grammatically lacking emails from senders with email addresses that don't match the company they claim to represent.

As someone who has been with the same couple of jobs for may years, I was not familiar with the Applicant Tracking Software. The following article states that 75% of Qualified Applicants are Eliminated because they do not know the rules! As I read the article, I realized I broke at least three of these rules and will revise again tomorrow.

What WORDS will drive traffic to your site?

Today has been a busy Career in Transition day. Designing my business cards (I have thoughts on that I will share later), rewriting my resume for the 8th time, and responding to emails and job postings has been a full time job today. I am a huge fan of research, (that trait comes from writing historical fiction as a hobby)and I have spent at least 2 hours researching career and technology articles. This article interested me because of a discussion I had recently with a well respected local recruiter. He spoke of using some of these words to tell a future employer what you can do for their company. This may be common knowledge to some but for those who may have not applied for a job in the past 10,15 or 20 years, these are some good observations. So if you are not on LinkedIn, get out there and let employers know what you have CREATED, DEVELOPED and IMPROVED!

New Transition - New Blog

Welcome to my new career site!

A year ago I bought a domain and started a website for job search articles and information, but I quickly found a job and let the site lapse. I have learned over this year, that the time I had devoted to that site was worthwhile and the content was relevant.

With this new site I hope to connect other job hunters with employers.  I am sure to accomplish all of this I will have to make serious upgrades and changes but that process is expected. Researching every subject relevant to my area of work produces volumes of links and information that could very well be useful to others in a similar situations.

Today's QUICK LINK  is to an USA News article on the Careers page entitled " 5 Ways to Make Job Hunting Easier on You."   Two points that stuck with me are: after you apply for a job, mentally move on  and not to take it personally.
